Baden-Württemberg: Baden-Württemberg wants more money from the federal government for rail

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg insists on more money from the federal government for local transport. The dispute over the financing of buses and trains is also an issue in the state parliament in Stuttgart today. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) will reaffirm his demand for an increase in the so-called regionalization funds for the railways. The reasons given by his ministry are drastic increases in energy prices, construction prices and personnel costs, but also less income because Corona has kept passengers away. The Greens in the state had recently repeatedly emphasized that it was not possible to introduce a cheap ticket as a successor to the 9-euro ticket, but that the states would have to cancel trains because of a lack of money.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) actually wanted to talk about the federal government's regionalization funds for rail transport at a special Prime Ministers' conference on Wednesday. However, the planned federal-state consultations with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will now be postponed to October 4 because Scholz cannot attend in person due to a corona infection.

Before the debate on local transport, Petra Olschowski (Greens) is sworn in as the new Science Minister in the state parliament. The previous incumbent Theresia Bauer (Greens) wants to become mayor in her hometown of Heidelberg.
