Baden-Württemberg: Bird flu also detected in the Lake Constance district

Friedrichshafen (dpa / lsw) - The highly contagious avian influenza is spreading further and has now also been detected in a bird in the Lake Constance district. The virus responsible for the disease was detected in a laboratory in a black-headed gull that died in Friedrichshafen, as the Bodenseekreis district office announced on Wednesday. From March 3rd, all poultry farmers in the Lake Constance district are obliged to keep their animals in the barn until the end of March.

Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, has been spreading in Baden-Württemberg for weeks and is a highly contagious infectious disease. Among other things, it was last detected in Stuttgart and Heilbronn in seagulls. According to experts, bird flu is not dangerous for humans, but it can cause high losses in populations of useful wings. The obligation to stall is intended to protect against transmission to livestock. The Ministry of Agriculture had so far refrained from a nationwide obligation to keep animals in stables.
