Baden-Württemberg: BWIHK President: Need a long-term crisis strategy

First Corona, then Ukraine - and in the future China? In view of the crisis scenarios, the economy in the southwest is permanently in reaction mode. This cannot go on like this, says a president of the association.

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - In order to be better prepared for future crises, the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BWIHK) calls for a long-term strategy. "With the state aid, a lot can be solved for this winter. But we have to position ourselves in such a way that we don't get into a new crisis again and then everyone is surprised again," said BWIHK President Christian Erbe of the German Press Agency.

However, he cannot currently identify an overarching strategy either in Germany or in Baden-Württemberg, he said. He suggested that commissions of experts should first be set up at state level, and later also at federal and European level. Strategic mistakes have been made in the past. "Previously, the price was the target and not the security of supply." You have to get away from that a bit.

"New crises threaten us, for example, from changes in the markets, because we are very export-oriented." It is therefore important to continue to internationalize and spread the risk across several markets.

As a major economic power, the USA had moved somewhat away from Europe, said Erbe. And then there is the question of how the People's Republic of China will develop. "This is a large target market, especially for companies from Baden-Württemberg, and many companies are very dependent." However, China and above all Taiwan are also very important for primary products and especially for semiconductors there. "And if anything happens, God have mercy on us."
