Baden-Württemberg: CDU comes together for the party conference: Merz, Teufel and Oettinger

Villingen-Schwenningen (dpa/lsw) - After the electoral defeats of the past, the Southwest CDU wants to deal with the future of the state association at a party conference in Villingen-Schwenningen (Schwarzwald-Baar district) today. The leading proposal, which is to be decided there, deals with the results of a future commission that has been working on reform proposals for the Southwest CDU for almost a year. With a trial membership or the expansion of participation formats, the party should be made more attractive and, above all, more young members should be won.

A prominent guest will be the CDU federal chairman Friedrich Merz, who has a few supporters in the south-west. In addition, the CDU old grandees and ex-prime ministers Günther Oettinger and Erwin Teufel are expected in the exhibition hall in Villingen-Schwenningen. In terms of content, the focus should be on the energy crisis and inflation.

The so-called letter affair about CDU country chief Thomas Strobl should not be on the agenda, but should still be present. The deputy prime minister is currently under political pressure because he passed on a letter from a lawyer for the suspended police inspector to a journalist. The opposition accuses him of betraying secrets and violating data protection. The prosecutor is investigating. Strobl also has to justify himself in an investigative committee of the state parliament. The police inspector is also under investigation - for sexual harassment.
