Baden-Württemberg: CDU: No own candidate for mayor election in Tübingen

Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - The CDU city association in Tübingen will not put its own candidate in the running for the mayor's office in autumn. This was announced by the chairman Armin Mozaffari Jovein on Friday in Tübingen. Whether the CDU will support another candidate depends on the answers to some questions submitted by the city association. "In direct discussions, the CDU city association looked at all the candidates for the Tübingen mayoral election 2022 who expressed an interest in this and created election touchstones consisting of a mixture of general and specific questions, which all candidates are asked to answer by the end of August," said Mozaffari Jovein.

The city association is aiming for a further exchange with the candidates on September 30 in a panel discussion on urban development with the candidates Sofie Geisel (SPD), Ulrike Baumgärtner (Greens) and Boris Palmer (independent candidate). "A decision as to whether the CDU city association supports a candidate for the mayoral election, or who this could be, should be made at a general meeting in early October," the statement said.

The mayoral election is on October 23. Incumbent Palmer, 50, is running for a third term.
