Ellwangen (dpa / lsw) - In the case of the abused and killed toddler from Bopfingen (Ostalbkreis), the Ellwangen public prosecutor's office has brought charges against the mother. A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in Ellwangen announced on Wednesday that the accusation was that people had been mistreated by omission. Several media had previously reported on the indictment.
The 37-year-old is accused of leaving her deceased son in the care of her partner between September 2021 and the end of October 2021, although she recognized and knew that he was mistreating her son, the spokesman said. The District Court of Ellwangen will therefore deal with the indictment.
The 23-month-old boy from Bopfingen was taken to a hospital on October 21, 2021 with numerous injuries and died there. At the end of May this year, the Ellwangen Regional Court sentenced the then partner of the child's mother to 14 years in prison for manslaughter and severe abuse of those under protection. In delivering the verdict, the presiding judge said there was no evidence that the boy's mother or siblings had injured him. But whether the mother had taken care of enough is another question, the district court decided at the time.
