Baden-Württemberg: Children do not need a test after corona isolation

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Children and young people should not have to show a negative test after a five-day quarantine if they return to school or daycare after a corona infection. The same rules should therefore apply to them as to adults, as the Ministry of Health and Education announced on Wednesday. According to the current isolation rules, adults also do not have to submit a negative test after five days of isolation after a Covid 19 disease when they go back to work.

"Children and young people who have already been under increased strain from the pandemic in recent years should not be made more difficult to access the community facilities," said Minister of Education Theresa Schopper (Greens). Health Minister Manne Lucha said that protecting the health of children and young people is undoubtedly important - "but it cannot be the case that children and young people are more exposed than adults".

Most recently, Baden-Württemberg, together with three other federal states, had also pushed for the isolation requirement for people infected with corona to be ended. Lucha (Greens) argued: "We should gradually get into the mode of treating a corona infection like another infectious disease, where the following applies: If you are sick, stay at home." You have to rely on more personal responsibility and no longer prescribe a five-day separation obligation for people.
