Lörrach (dpa / lsw) - According to investigators, a woman was arrested abroad because she is said to have withheld her children from their father. There was a European arrest warrant against the suspect, as the Lörrach branch of the Freiburg public prosecutor announced on Friday on request. An extradition to Germany is now being sought. Südwestrundfunk (SWR) had previously reported on the case.
The investigators expressly gave no further information about the suspect and the children. According to information from SWR, the mother of two children was arrested in Portugal.
As the public prosecutor's office further reported, a preliminary investigation is underway against the woman on suspicion of the confiscation of minors. The father has filed a criminal complaint. Child abduction can be punished with a prison sentence of up to five years, in very serious cases the sentence can reach up to ten years.
