Baden-Württemberg: Climate protection: Green-Black agrees on register

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After a long struggle, the green-black coalition has agreed on a so-called register of measures for climate protection. It is to be decided in the cabinet on February 7 and presented a day later. The register is also part of the new climate protection law that the Baden-Württemberg state parliament intends to pass on Wednesday (February 1).

With the amendment, Baden-Württemberg would be the first federal state to enshrine in law concrete targets for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) for transport, buildings and the economy. First, the SWR reported on the agreement in the factions.

Like a kind of homework book, the register should contain the measures that ministries have to take to achieve their ambitious climate goals, broken down by sector. In addition to CO2-reducing decisions, this also includes purchases, conversions or reforms, which must be listed in detail and updated. It was supposed to be available last fall, but the project was delayed.

The country has set itself the goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 and becoming climate neutral by 2040 - five years earlier than the federal government decided for Germany.

The register of measures has already been announced in the amendment, which is to be passed in the state parliament as the "Climate Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Act". Above all, there are doubts as to whether the transport sector can achieve the goals. According to the interim targets calculated by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW), motorized private transport would have to be reduced by 38 percent by 2040 compared to 2019 "through relocation and avoidance".
