Baden-Württemberg: Climate targets: Stuttgart Airport needs 2.4 billion

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to its own calculations, Stuttgart Airport requires investments of around 2.4 billion euros to achieve its climate goals by 2040. The company is working to bring its CO2 emissions to zero within the next 18 years, said management spokesman Walter Schoefer on Monday.

The most important lever for reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a consistent energetic refurbishment of the company buildings, according to the statement. The terminals, some of which are over 30 years old, are a focal point here. In addition, the number of solar systems is to be increased significantly and the airport's vehicle fleet is to be electrified.

It is important to everyone involved to achieve climate neutrality with climate-friendly measures and not with compensation certificates, said Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann (Greens), who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board. The airport is 65 percent owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg and 35 percent by the city of Stuttgart.
