Baden-Württemberg: Committee of inquiry into the Strobl affair begins work

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The work begins as soon as it is deployed: the members of the committee of inquiry into, among other things, abuses by the police have come together for their inaugural meeting. The SPD and FDP submitted four requests for evidence on Thursday, said the spokesman for the two factions. The opposition is demanding the submission of the government report and the provision of files from the ministries, the police, the public prosecutor's office, the courts and the Baden-Württemberg Police Academy.

"We expect the government to submit the government report and the requested files quickly," said the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, Sascha Binder. "We hope that we can start reviewing and reading the documents and the government report no later than during the parliamentary summer break," emphasized FDP Chairwoman Julia Goll.

Parliament only decided to set up the committee on Wednesday. The subject of the investigation is divided into three main areas: allegations of sexual harassment in state authorities, the affair surrounding Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) and a letter he pierced from a lawyer, as well as the promotion practice with the police.
