Baden-Württemberg: Court examines the detention of "lateral thinking" founder Ballweg

The initiator of the "lateral thinking" movement, Michael Ballweg, has been in prison since the end of June on suspicion of fraud and money laundering. His lawyers want to change that.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Will the imprisoned "lateral thinking" founder Michael Ballweg be released? At least that's what the 47-year-old's lawyers are hoping for and have applied for a detention review for today, as the lawyer Alexander Christ announced in advance.

They did not consider the suspicions raised in the investigation file to be covered, said Christ, who has taken on media work within a team of lawyers. They are confident that Ballweg will be released after the detention check.

The public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart is investigating Ballweg for fraud and money laundering. Due to the risk of absconding, he has been in custody since June 29. According to information from judicial circles, there is a suspicion of fraud in the amount of around 640,000 euros and money laundering in the amount of around 430,000 euros.

Out of solidarity with the imprisoned Ballweg and to demand his release, supporters want to demonstrate on Monday (1 p.m.) in front of the prison in Stuttgart-Stammheim. The city confirmed that a corresponding event had been registered.

The "lateral thinking" movement was formed in the course of the corona pandemic and is opposed to political measures to contain the virus. She is observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution because of anti-constitutional views, conspiracy ideologies and anti-Semitic tendencies.
