Baden-Württemberg: Court of Auditors warns: Separate what is necessary from what is desirable

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In view of the high inflation and the impending energy crisis, the Court of Auditors has asked the state government to exercise moderation. On Monday in Stuttgart, the chief financial auditor, Günther Benz, recommended that Grün-Schwarz exercise restraint when it comes to additional spending, in order to keep leeway for unforeseeable developments. "You should separate the necessary from the desirable," said Benz. Because of the crisis, the ministries would have to postpone some things they would like to do.

He criticized that the departments had requested additional spending of over 7.6 billion euros despite the small scope in the double budget. Because of the crisis, the ministries should actually set their own priorities and not leave everything at the door of the finance department. The President of the Court of Auditors also warned that the country was threatened with higher costs for its old debts of almost 60 billion euros due to rising interest rates. That also narrows the scope in perspective.
