Baden-Württemberg: Criticism of the reform in the promotion of building renovation

The cut in funding for refurbishment projects is not going down well. Baden-Württemberg's Housing Minister Nicole Razavi fears "a disservice" to climate protection.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The chairwoman of the conference of construction ministers, Nicole Razavi (CDU), has sharply criticized the planned conversion of the promotion of building renovation. The Baden-Württemberg department head said in Stuttgart that it was correct that the federal government saw renovations as a central necessity. "But then there must be more and not less funding in the current situation." In view of rising construction costs and interest rates, the reduced subsidy rates are completely counterproductive.

The Federal Ministry of Economics had presented a reform of the promotion of building renovation. In order to give as many citizens as possible access to funding in view of the tight budget, "somewhat reduced funding rates" are necessary. Razavi said that in theory, of course, more people could receive funding as a result. "In practice, however, this is a milkmaid's calculation. The almost universally negative reactions of those affected to the change in funding encourage me in this view."

The CDU politician emphasized that in order to solve the housing problem, more renovation and more reliability in funding are urgently needed. "I fear that many will now completely refrain from refurbishment because it will simply be too expensive for them. The bottom line would not be more buildings and apartments refurbished, but fewer. That would then be for both housing construction and climate protection a disservice."
