Mannheim (dpa/lsw) - The fire brigade in Mannheim fought a fire after an explosion in a metal factory during a large-scale operation. According to the police, the two factory buildings that were completely burned out on Sunday were currently in danger of collapsing.
It was initially unclear how the explosion in the Rheinauhafen facility occurred early Sunday morning. It was possible to prevent the subsequent fire from spreading to other areas. In addition, caustic metal stain that had escaped due to the heat had to be secured, according to a spokesman for the fire brigade.
A determination of the cause is currently not possible because of the danger of collapse. In addition to the fire brigade with almost 100 emergency services, there was also a group of drones on site to check the parts of the hall that were in danger of collapsing.
