Baden-Württemberg: Debt counseling in the southwest receives almost half a million

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Advice projects for over-indebted families receive a total of 400,000 euros in funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg. The funds will go to nine debt counseling centers from various urban and rural districts, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Thursday in Stuttgart. "We have to reach indebted families as early as possible, in particular to avert the consequences of over-indebtedness for children and young people," said Social Affairs Minister Manne Lucha (Greens).

There are around 110 debt counseling centers in the country. They are run by independent welfare organizations such as Caritas, Diakonie and Arbeiterwohlfahrt, as well as by urban and rural districts.

According to the statement in its new "Society Report BW", the State Statistical Office has come to the conclusion that debt counseling should be more easily accessible - for example digitally. Or that it should be offered in places where families are anyway, such as in schools and daycare centers.
