Baden-Württemberg: Debt counseling in the state focuses more on families

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg sees gaps in debt counseling. Minister of Social Affairs Manne Lucha (Greens) said on Thursday in Stuttgart that indebted families had to be reached as early as possible in order to avert the consequences of over-indebtedness for children and young people. "At the same time, counseling for over-indebted families must be aimed more at their specific needs."

Against this background, the ministry is funding nine pilot projects with 400,000 euros. They are based on a relevant study on the subject. The scientists recommended that counseling should also be offered in places such as family and neighborhood centers, schools and day-care centers. Or the experts can acquire special knowledge of family benefits and maintenance obligations. It is also important to expand public relations and educational work.
