Baden-Württemberg: Despite the challenges, the hospitality industry is optimistic about the summer

Summer is here and holidays are just around the corner in the South West. Perfect conditions if it weren't for the sharply rising prices and corona numbers. Nevertheless, the hospitality industry is optimistic about business in the summer.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Despite various challenges, the hospitality industry in the southwest is optimistic about business in the summer. The economic challenges, especially the cost increases, are great and in some cases already noticeable, said the spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg Hotel and Restaurant Association, Daniel Ohl, of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. But the need for socializing and culinary experiences as well as for vacation and relaxation is still great.

Based on a survey by the association in Baden-Württemberg at the beginning of July, he could describe the current demand situation as "overall good to satisfactory," said Ohl. He is optimistic that many domestic tourists have rediscovered Germany and thus also Baden-Württemberg as an attractive travel and holiday destination in the past Corona years.

The increasing corona incidence is causing him a certain concern. The hospitality industry is characterized by small businesses, which react particularly sensitively to increased sick leave. The increasing corona numbers would also have an impact on the guests. According to Ohl, hoteliers reported an increase in short-term bookings. In addition, more guests canceled their reservations at short notice.
