Baden-Württemberg: Despite the rule change: free corona tests in Tübingen

Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - In contrast to most cities in Germany, all people in Tübingen should continue to be able to be tested for Corona free of charge. The district association of the German Red Cross (DRK) will initially finance the free quick tests at a station near the main train station from donations collected for this purpose, said the Tübingen pandemic officer, DRK district association president Lisa Federle, on Thursday. The station is open three days a week. First, the SWR had reported.

Offering free tests has always been her line during the pandemic, stressed Federle. "I find it very difficult when people no longer allow themselves to be tested because of aggravating factors. And I see the corona numbers currently increasing again." That is why the DRK wants to continue to offer free tests as long as the money from donations and quick test income is sufficient.

After a change in the test regulation of the Federal Ministry of Health, most people have had to pay for rapid corona tests again since Thursday. Free "citizen tests" at test stations or in pharmacies are only available for risk groups, for people who deal with particularly vulnerable groups, and for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. For tests, for example at family celebrations and concerts, an additional payment of three euros is due.
