This was the result of the draw for the first round matches on Sunday, which will be played from July 29th to August 1st. The Freiburg Bundesliga club had lost this year's final against RB Leipzig.
VfB Stuttgart has to compete at Dynamo Dresden. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has a supposedly easy task to solve with SV Rödinghausen at the start of the cup.
Karlsruher SC has to travel to TSG Neustrelitz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the last cup season, the second division team was one of the surprise teams and only failed in the quarter-finals on penalties against Hamburger SV.
