Baden-Württemberg: DGB demonstrates before gas summit about "energy price cap"

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The DGB demonstrated before the gas summit of the Baden-Württemberg state government and demanded an "energy price cap". In winter, it shouldn't depend on the individual's wallet "whether the apartment stays warm or cold," said DGB country chief Kai Burmeister on Monday before the crisis meeting in Stuttgart's New Palace.

At the summit he will demand that people now need relief from the rising prices. Burmeister also wants to ensure that schools are counted as critical infrastructure and continue to be heated in the event of a gas shortage. After the difficult Corona winters, parents and children expect "that the schools will not be closed".

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) received around 40 representatives from business, trade unions, municipalities and utilities on Monday morning. The main purpose of the meeting is to collect suggestions on how consumers and industry can save energy quickly. At the beginning of the meeting, Kretschmann said that it could be a winter "that could lead to a crucial test". He appealed to the participants to show that Baden-Württemberg is moving closer together in these difficult times.
