Baden-Württemberg: Due to the energy crisis, there is no ice rink on the Christmas market

Offenburg (dpa / lsw) - The city of Offenburg does without the ice rink at its Christmas market in order to save energy. The administration had to make this decision "for contractual reasons", said city marketing boss Stefan Schürlein on Thursday. By not skating on the market square, the city can save 12,000 to 13,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, which roughly corresponds to the annual needs of 3.7 households.

In the case of Christmas lights, on the other hand, the possibilities for saving energy are not so great. 95 percent of this has now been converted to LED technology. "Offenburg is saving with measure and target," said Mayor Marco Steffens. The administration wants to present other ideas for saving energy in the coming months. On September 14, the municipal council should discuss this with a view to autumn and winter.
