A pair of thieves were on the move all over Germany to rob elderly people. They used stolen EC cards to withdraw money and shop, according to the indictment. Now the duo is on trial.

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - In 25 cases nationwide, they are said to have stolen the EC card from older people and then used it to pay or withdraw money. According to the indictment, a duo deprived their victims of a good 100,000 euros in this way. The 29-year-old and her accomplice, who is two years older, are said to have observed the victims entering their PIN number and then stole their money card. The two accused are sitting in the dock of the Mannheim district court from Monday (10:00 a.m.).

According to the public prosecutor's office, between the beginning of April 2020 and mid-February 2022 in Baden-Württemberg (Hemsbach, Ladenburg, Calw, Lichtenstein and Weinheim), Bavaria (five cases), Hesse (eight), Rhineland-Palatinate (three) and in North Rhine-Westphalia (two) and up to mischief in one case each in Thuringia and Saxony. In some cases, people's entire wallets were stolen. According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused paid for purchases - sometimes in connection with withdrawing money - and used other people's cash from the machines in more than 45 cases. The accusation is suspicion of commercial gang computer fraud in numerous cases.
