Baden-Württemberg: Emergency call from the University of Tübingen because of energy costs

Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - The Tübingen University Council has urgently called on the state government to launch an aid program due to the sharp rise in energy costs. "Unlike all other state universities in Baden-Württemberg, the universities have to cover the costs for heating and electricity from their own budgets," said the chairman of the university council, Bernhard Sibold, on Wednesday.

If no help comes, only cuts remain with the staff. "In order to compensate for our structural deficit, the university would have to cut back on 20 professorships, including the associated employees," said Sibold. This would have a direct and massive impact on research and teaching at the University of Tübingen. The number of new appointments would have to be drastically reduced and cuts in the range of courses would be inevitable.
