"I see it as black in the long term," said Weislämle, who teaches at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, the "Südkurier" (Tuesday). The hotel and catering industry had an attractiveness problem even before the Corona crisis. In the meantime, this has also arrived in university education: "Courses of study sometimes have to fight for every single student." Family-run businesses would have a real problem handing over their business to the next generation.

The shortage of skilled workers and the Corona crisis will have a major impact on the industry. Some of the companies will rely on self-service, some will maintain the service, but will be significantly more expensive. "Things like the cover charge currently being discussed or even admission prices are broadly possible in this segment," said Weislämle. Service robots will also soon be seen more frequently.

Locals would have to clear out their menus, adjust the opening times to the number of customers and become more professional. "Perhaps the old inn romance will be lost a bit," said the tourism expert. "But I think development is imperative."
