Ettlingen (dpa / lsw) - Due to a wildfire south of Karlsruhe, the federal highway 3 near Ettlingen (Karlsruhe district) was closed on Thursday. A field caught fire there in the afternoon for an unclear reason, said a police spokesman. Several firefighters tried to extinguish the fire. But the fire keeps flaring up. A police helicopter also helps in the search for embers.
The police spokesman was initially unable to provide any information on the extent of the fire and the status of the extinguishing work. However, part of the embankment on the nearby Autobahn 5 also caught fire. Despite the smoke, drivers could still see far enough there, the police spokesman said. The A5 has therefore not been blocked so far. No injuries have been reported so far.
