Baden-Württemberg: Fewer apartments approved in the southwest

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of approved new apartments in Baden-Württemberg fell significantly in the first half of the year. Compared to the first half of 2021, it fell by eleven percent to around 21,700, as the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Stuttgart. The figures for June 2022 were even 15 percent below the value for the same month last year.

"People are unsettled and are reluctant to apply for permits," commented a spokeswoman for the Baden-Württemberg construction industry. Reasons include the price increases as a result of the war in Ukraine, the loss of funding opportunities and rising interest rates. They do not expect a fundamental trend reversal in the coming months.

According to the statisticians, the number of newly approved single-family homes fell particularly sharply: around 17 percent fewer were approved than in the same period last year, and for multi-family homes the minus was 13 percent. The number of approved two-family houses, on the other hand, increased slightly by six percent.
