Baden-Württemberg: Fewer corona patients in clinics - but no all-clear

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of corona patients in the clinics in the southwest is falling, as is the number of new infections - the Ministry of Health in Stuttgart does not want to give the all-clear. "These indicators are currently declining and indicate that we have fortunately passed the peak of the summer wave," said a spokesman for the ministry on Thursday. "However, the health system is currently under a lot of strain, especially due to sick leave among staff. There can therefore be no question of an all-clear."

According to the State Health Office (LGA) on Thursday, the number of corona intensive care patients in the south-west fell by 46 to 113 compared to the previous week. 1,613 people were treated with Corona in the normal wards, 146 fewer than a week ago. The nationwide seven-day incidence also fell by more than 200 on a weekly basis to 442.9.

The reasons for the decline are "mainly the increasing immunity in the population due to the high rate of infection in recent months," said the ministry spokesman. Vaccinations also played a role. Despite the decline, the country must prepare for the fall, the spokesman emphasized. "The immunity in the population will decrease again." Other respiratory diseases such as the flu could then also place an additional burden on the healthcare system.
