Baden-Württemberg: Fire after a gas explosion in the garden house: 250,000 euros in damage

Wertheim (dpa/lsw) - A building fire in Wertheim caused damage of at least 250,000 euros on Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out in an adjacent garden shed, which also contained gas bottles, the police said in the evening. These exploded and the fire spread to the multi-purpose building.

The roof structure of the house in the village of Dietenhan was destroyed and the roof structure of an adjacent residential building was damaged. The residents of the house were taken out in time and were reportedly unharmed.

According to the fire brigade, mercury-filled thermometers were also stored in the multi-purpose building in the Main-Tauber district, but these remained undamaged. Pollutant measurements by the emergency services were correspondingly negative. The fire was extinguished after about three hours, and around 100 firefighters were on duty. The investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to continue on Wednesday.
