Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Four people were slightly injured in a fire in an apartment building in the Plieningen district of Stuttgart. The four residents contracted smoke poisoning due to the toxic smoke, the fire brigade announced on Saturday morning. Two of them were taken to a clinic. Other people were unharmed.
According to the current state of knowledge, the fire probably broke out on Friday because of a defective power box in the basement. The smoke then spread massively from the basement in the stairwell of the 5-storey house, the police said. Rescue workers finally evacuated the residents using turntable ladders. A total of 43 people received medical care on site. The fire could be extinguished. The apartment on the ground floor is uninhabitable for the time being.
