Leonberg (dpa / lsw) - In a social and refugee accommodation in Leonberg (Böblingen district) there was a fire on Tuesday night. 17 residents have been rescued from the smoke-filled building, the police said on Tuesday. Nobody got hurt. It was initially unclear how the fire started.

According to the information, the fire broke out in the basement. Residents called the fire department. The emergency services evacuated 12 people, including several children, through windows on the ground floor. With the help of a turntable ladder, the fire brigade got 5 more people from the first floor. The emergency services extinguished the fire.

According to the information, the affected part of the building of the social and refugee accommodation is uninhabitable. The police estimate the damage caused at 250,000 euros.
