Baden-Württemberg: Fuel prices are falling sharply in some parts of the south-west

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The energy tax reduction on Wednesday also caused lower fuel prices at many gas stations in Baden-Württemberg. Super petrol was available in the morning for 1.80 to 2.22 euros, around 27 cents less than on Tuesday. The price in the country was between 2.07 and 2.36 euros, as reported by Südwestrundfunk in Stuttgart, citing its own data analysis.

According to the ADAC, on Wednesday morning E10 cost an average of 1.88 euros and diesel 1.94 euros per liter nationwide. The automobile club did not collect data for the southwest. A spokesman said in Stuttgart that according to the preliminary status, the reduction in energy tax had not yet fully reached the gas stations. "Regardless of the tax cut, the price level can be described as clearly excessive." The ADAC still sees potential for further significant price reductions.

There was little activity at Südwest petrol stations near the border. At a gas station in Kehl not far from the border, however, it was said that there were many customers from France in the morning. A customer from Strasbourg reported that Super E10 fuel, for example, was significantly cheaper than on the other side of the border.

Before the tax cut, many experts had expected fuel prices not to fall abruptly on Wednesday. The reason for this is that the reduced tax does not apply to sales at the pump, but from the tank farm or refinery. This means that all gas station supplies delivered before midnight are still subject to the normal higher tax rate.

The fact that the majority of petrol stations lowered their prices sharply in the morning could be a result of the high level of public attention and the associated competitive pressure.
