Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Because of a burning truck, Autobahn 6 was completely closed early Thursday morning. In addition, rail traffic was temporarily paralyzed due to a damaged overhead line. The truck driver suffered minor injuries, police said.
Around 4 a.m., several road users had reported a burning truck on the A 6 in the direction of Frankfurt. On the section of road between the Mannheim-Schwetzingen exit and the Mannheim motorway junction, the trailer of the truck caught fire, probably due to a technical defect. The driver managed to uncouple the tractor and prevent the flames from spreading to the vehicle. The 49-year-old had to be treated in a hospital for inhaling smoke gas. Due to the heavy smoke development and the extinguishing work carried out by a large number of the Mannheim professional fire brigade, the section of the route had to be completely closed. The salvage of the burned trailer was completed by midday.
