Baden-Württemberg: GDL is planning another strike at the railway company SWEG

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - The collective bargaining conflict between the train drivers' union GDL and the Südwestdeutsches Landesverkehrs GmbH (SWEG) continues. The GDL threatened another strike on Friday in Mannheim. This meets passengers at a time that is actually considered a peaceful Christmas season - unfortunately not at SWEG and SBS, according to the union. There should not and will not be any different treatment of railway workers in one and the same company owned by the public sector.

The GDL last called on the employees of Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs GmbH (SWEG) and its subsidiary SWEG Bahn Stuttgart GmbH (SBS) to go on strike for several days in November.

The conflict is about the fact that the Union of German Locomotive Drivers (GDL), according to their own statements, would like to negotiate a collective agreement for the more than 500 railway workers not only for SBS, but for the entire SWEG group. The group has a total of 1800 employees. SWEG rejects this and does not want to take over the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg - today SBS - permanently. The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.
