Baden-Württemberg: GDL still combative after the strike weekend at SWEG

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the strike weekend at the state-owned Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG) and its subsidiary SWEG Bahn Stuttgart GmbH (SBS), the train drivers' union (GDL) is still combative. "Whether after the strike is also before the strike is entirely in the hands of the employer," said the union on Monday. It's not too late to come back to the negotiating table. A protest action at Stuttgart Central Station is planned for Friday.

The GDL launched a 72-hour strike at SWEG last Friday. According to the company, the effects were limited until the strike ended early Monday morning. The willingness to walk out has decreased every day. A basic offer only had to be run on the routes of the SBS. In addition, a high level of sick leave caused restrictions in the company. However, the GDL emphasized that the strike participation of the colleagues showed a different picture - but did not go into detail.

The collective bargaining dispute is about the fact that the GDL would like to negotiate a collective agreement not only for SBS in the future, but for the entire SWEG group with its 1800 employees. However, the SWEG supervisory board decided on Friday not to take over the SBS - former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg - permanently. Negotiations about a group collective agreement with the GDL are also excluded. However, there is still a willingness to negotiate with the GDL about a collective agreement at the SBS.

The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years. The corresponding route network must then be put out to tender again.
