Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Migration Minister Marion Gentges is opposed to the federal government's new admission program for particularly vulnerable Afghans in view of the worsening refugee situation in the south-west. The CDU politician writes in a letter to Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (CDU), which is available to the dpa, that the federal government is obliged not to overwhelm states and municipalities that have already taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine with controllable migration. Gentges writes verbatim: "Against the background of the high number of new arrivals that have already taken place, the Ministry of Justice and Migration believes that the Federal Admissions Program in Afghanistan, which is planned to take up to 1,000 people per month, is in no way responsible."
In mid-October, the interior and foreign ministries in Berlin announced the launch of the program in response to the difficult humanitarian situation since the militant Islamic Taliban seized power in August 2021. Afghan nationals in Afghanistan who have campaigned for women's and human rights or who are particularly at risk because of their work in the judiciary, politics, media, education, culture, sport or science should benefit. Also people who are persecuted because of their gender, sexual orientation or gender identity, their religion or because of special circumstances of the individual case.
