Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - Because he is said to have cheated an 82-year-old woman out of 40,000 euros, a young man was arrested in Karlsruhe and taken into custody. As the police and prosecutors jointly reported on Tuesday, several suspected fraudsters had pretended to the woman on the phone that her granddaughter had caused an accident and needed a high bail.
Officials arrested the 19-year-old suspect on Friday after he received the money from the woman on the street.
Fraud involving alleged grandchildren and police officers is more common, including in Baden-Württemberg. Police again warned against responding to phone calls of this nature.
