Baden-Württemberg: Green Bayaz and Kühn for rapprochement with Palmer

Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - Green politicians from Baden-Württemberg spoke out in favor of a rapprochement after Boris Palmer's success in the mayoral election in Tübingen - but also made the 50-year-olds responsible. "Boris Palmer was able to convince the local people of his work, especially when it came to the major issues of climate protection and the economy," said State Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz to the editorial network Germany (RND/Tuesday). "I see this as an opportunity for him and the party to get closer. All players will have to do something for this, including Boris Palmer himself."

The former Greens state chairman and ex-district chairman in Tübingen, Chris Kühn, told the RND: “In Tübingen we are all doing well to reach out and jointly fill in the ditch that has arisen in recent years but all move a bit." In any case, the Greens should "not wait until Boris Palmer's dormant membership becomes an active membership again," said the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment. "We need to talk to each other earlier. This is necessary for the good of the city."

On Sunday, Palmer was elected mayor in the university town for another eight years. He has been the head of the town hall in Tübingen for 16 years. Palmer did not run for the Greens but as an independent candidate because of internal party troubles. His party membership will be suspended until the end of 2023. The state association in Stuttgart congratulated Palmer on his re-election. When asked if the election would affect dormant party membership, a spokeswoman said talks have already been arranged for next year.
