Baden-Württemberg: Green-Black wants compulsory identification for the police

For some it is an act of transparency, for others a vote of no confidence: in the future, police officers in the south-west will also have to wear a code on their uniforms at demonstrations and football games. Minister Strobl is thus fulfilling an urgent wish of the Greens.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The green-black state government wants to introduce an obligation to identify police officers during large-scale operations such as football games and demonstrations this Tuesday. The draft law aims to facilitate investigations against police officers after such operations. The labeling requirement is a project from the coalition agreement that the Greens in particular had pushed for. Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) is now implementing this against the will of the German police union. It is still unclear when the regulation will come into force. According to the Ministry of the Interior, only 1,640 of the more than 29,000 civil servants in the country are affected.

In addition, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) wants to inform the government press conference (12.00) about an expansion of public participation. Accordingly, there should be more citizens' forums on government legislative projects in the future.
