Baden-Württemberg: Hermann criticizes the planned successor to the 9-euro ticket

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Transport Minister Winfried Hermann has criticized the government's planned successor to the 9-euro ticket. The federal government does not increase urgently needed regionalization funds. In view of the dramatically increased costs, the overall financing is no longer correct, Hermann told the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" (Tuesday). "I am very upset that the federal government is ignoring this and offering a cheap ticket instead," said Hermann. The federal government is putting the states under pressure "because everyone now believes that the successor to the 9-euro ticket has already been decided." It is difficult to respond to such an offer.

The traffic light coalition presented a third relief package on Sunday, which the government put at around 65 billion euros. Among other things, the coalition is aiming for a nationwide successor to the 9-euro ticket at a price of 49 to 69 euros a month. The federal government wants to subsidize 1.5 billion euros if the states pay at least as much.

"What the federal government has presented to us is not very well thought out," said Hermann. In large transport associations, the tickets would probably be in high demand, but would also lead to a loss of income. In rural areas, on the other hand, there is hardly any demand for them because of the scarcity of public transport. Hermann also raised the question of how to make a cheap public transport offer "if some bus or train companies are about to go bankrupt due to the high energy costs".
