Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg trade association expects great demand for firecrackers and rockets for New Year's Eve in the coming days. "There is a need to catch up. Some are already hot for it," said a spokesman on Thursday in Stuttgart. The association expects a very decent sale.
From Thursday, fireworks can be sold in Germany for three days - for the first time in three years. In the two previous years, sales were prohibited in Germany due to the corona pandemic.
Setting off fireworks has been criticized because it can injure people and start fires on New Year's Eve. Environmental concerns are also regularly raised because tons of particulate matter are released when they burn. Animal rights activists complain about the noise pollution for animals.
