Baden-Württemberg: High energy costs: Europa-Park will raise prices in 2023

According to its boss, Germany's largest amusement park has had an excellent season. A new visitor record is expected. On a large construction site, it might take a little longer. And ticket prices will also increase.

Rust (dpa / lsw) - In view of inflation and increased energy costs, Europa-Park wants to raise admission prices by around five percent in the coming year. "We don't want to pass on the cost increases in full," founder and shareholder Roland Mack told journalists in Rust (Ortenaukreis) on Tuesday. The company wants to keep families and visitors who come to the facility north of Freiburg more often.

"When I see the prices in America for comparable parks, we're maybe a third of the admission prices," said the head of Germany's largest amusement park, looking at the United States. According to the online booking system, a standard day ticket costs at least 57.50 euros from March.

The provisional balance of this year's season is excellent despite the energy crisis. Including the water park, around six million visitors are expected, which will be a new record, said Mack. "There is a lot of catching up to do." Before the corona pandemic, the park in southern Baden welcomed over 5.7 million people in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 there were significant declines due to Corona.

According to the family entrepreneur, the park will invest around 80 million euros in new attractions within three years. The recently opened luxury restaurant "Eatrenalin" next to a hotel with self-propelled armchairs has been well received by guests. The new roller coaster, originally planned for the second half of next year, is unlikely to open until 2024 due to supply bottlenecks, Mack told the German Press Agency on the side. Investments will also be made in a new photovoltaic system. This Saturday marks the start of the winter season in the park, which is decorated for Christmas.
