Baden-Württemberg: Hinze corrects season goal: "Want to play in Europe"

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - After the surprisingly good season so far, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen have corrected their goal for the season in the Handball Bundesliga. "Our starting position is good, we believe in our strength and want to play in Europe again next year," said coach Sebastian Hinze in an interview with "Mannheimer Morgen" (Friday).

Before the season, Hinze had seen his team in fifth to tenth place, currently the North Baden team is third in the table and only two points behind leaders Füchse Berlin, even fighting for the championship. "We also want to be in this race for as long as possible," said Hinze, who still sees his newly formed team developing. "Honestly, I don't yet know what my team's maximum is."

The 43-year-old is in good spirits with regard to national player Jannik Kohlbacher's planned contract extension with the two-time German champions. "There is no question that I would very much like to keep Jannik. And I have the feeling that Jannik would like to remain part of the lions," said Hinze. "So I'm cautiously optimistic that a contract extension will work."
