Baden-Württemberg: Home builders in the southwest: higher prices and uncertainties

In the construction industry, prices are rising sharply. The industry wants to pass on the costs. The question is whether customers can finance it.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Home builders in Baden-Württemberg have to adjust to higher prices and uncertainties in cost calculations. The construction industry is struggling with material shortages and sharp price increases for energy and raw materials, said the general manager of the Baden-Württemberg construction industry, Thomas Möller, the German Press Agency in Stuttgart.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, construction prices for residential buildings in February increased by 14.3 percent compared to the same month last year. With new contracts, the companies would have to try to pass on the price increases to the customers. "You have to be prepared for the fact that construction will remain more expensive overall and at a high price level," said Möller.

Construction companies can currently hardly calculate how prices will develop in the future. Under certain circumstances, they could consider a price clause to absorb price increases. But the question then is whether the customer would still be able to pay for it or whether the bank would finance it. With existing contracts, the companies could try to talk to the client and find a common solution. Otherwise the companies would have to top it off.
