Baden-Württemberg: In Switzerland, temperature records tumble on New Year's Eve

Delsberg (dpa / lsw) - The unusually warm weather for the time of year caused temperature records to tumble in Switzerland on New Year's Eve. In Delsberg in the canton of Jura, 20 degrees were measured at noon, 3.7 degrees more than 1961, when the warmest New Year's day since measurements began was registered, as the weather service Meteonews announced on Saturday. The trigger is warm air from the subtropics, which brings spring-like temperatures. The New Year's temperature records would "just tumble," according to Meteonews. In Basel-Binningen, 16.7 degrees were measured at noon, in St. Gallen 15.1 degrees and in Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland 15.5 degrees.
