Baden-Württemberg: Investigations against nurses for attempted murder

Herbolzheim (dpa / lsw) - A nurse is suspected of having seriously injured an 89-year-old woman and locked her in a basement. According to information from Thursday, the police and prosecutors are investigating, among other things, attempted murder against the 25-year-old because he may have wanted to cover up a theft with the act. According to a police spokesman, they are also checking where the man known to the police for property crimes was still working. The suspect was taken to a psychiatric clinic by order of the Emmendingen district court.

Patrol officers drove to a house in Herbolzheim (Emmendingen district) on Tuesday evening after an “unclear police emergency call”, as the investigators said. After ringing and knocking several times, the 25-year-old opened the front door. He had become increasingly aggressive and uncooperative. The officers took him to the ground and handcuffed him.

In the bedroom, they found a bedridden 91-year-old unharmed. They discovered his wife in a locked basement room. "She was seriously injured and not responsive," the statement said. The 89-year-old came to a clinic. "You don't know what it would have been like if you hadn't found them," said the police spokesman. Officers also noticed a bag packed with the carer's belongings and the couple's valuables. It was initially unclear how long the man had worked there.
