Baden-Württemberg: Iris Berben awarded the German Speaker Prize

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - The actress Iris Berben was awarded the German Speakers' Prize by the German Speakers Association (GSA) on Saturday evening in Stuttgart. The prize is awarded to people who use the power of their language to move people and the media, said Volker Römermann, chairman of the speakers' prize committee. "Iris Berben takes a stand, gets involved, gets involved - for a cosmopolitan Germany, for a sensitive look at all kinds of discrimination, against racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia and resentment from the political fringes."

The 72-year-old, who received the medal against animal seriousness from the Aachen Carnival Association in February, was honored as the twelfth prizewinner for her oratory skills and contributions. The title holders also include the former Federal Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, the former bishop Margot Käßmann, ex-Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche and the former Federal President Roman Herzog.

In addition to the German Speakers' Prize of the GSA, there is also the Cicero Speakers' Prize of the publishing house for the German economy.
