Baden-Württemberg: knife attack in refugee accommodation: man in court

A bloody knife attack in a refugee camp shakes a small community on Lake Constance in the summer. The alleged perpetrator: a 32-year-old. He is said to have attacked several people, one man dies. Now the asylum seeker is before the court.

Ravensburg (dpa/lsw) - Almost exactly six months after a fatal knife attack in a refugee accommodation on Lake Constance, the trial against a 32-year-old begins on Tuesday (2 p.m.). The man from Nigeria is accused of murder and attempted murder on several counts. On June 26, he is said to have attacked men and women in the accommodation in Kressbronn (Lake Constance district) with a kitchen knife and stabbed him several times. One man died in the attack. The 38-year-old Syrian succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Six other people were injured, some of them critically.

Disputes between the asylum seekers are said to have led to the crime. It should also be about integration. According to the court, the defendant was of the opinion that roommates of Arabic descent would be better integrated and would be more actively supported by the state. He is said to have knocked on the doors of his roommates and then stabbed those present indiscriminately. The Friedrichshafen criminal police had set up a 25-strong investigative team to clarify the course of the crime.

The 32-year-old is said to have rioted in the accommodation in May and threatened people with a knife. Then he went to a psychiatric clinic. The investigations into threats and damage to property were not yet complete at the time.

According to the district office of the Lake Constance district, the accommodation is in two buildings of roughly the same size in the center of the 9,000-inhabitant city. There was no security service there.

Again and again acts of violence occur in refugee shelters. The Ministry of the Interior in Baden-Württemberg registered more than 600 cases last year. In the previous year there were more than 850 acts of violence.
