Baden-Württemberg: Kretschmann is "surprised" by the high financial demands

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann has shown himself irritated by the high financial demands of his ministries despite the difficult budgetary situation. When asked whether he was angry about the requirements of the departments, the Green politician said on Tuesday in Stuttgart: "No, but I was surprised." According to a list by the Ministry of Finance, which is available to the German Press Agency, the departments have applied for a total of 7.75 billion euros in additional spending and almost 9,000 new jobs. Kretschmann said: "You can only distribute the money you have." The ministries already knew that the financial leeway in the next double budget 2023/24 would be tight before they made their demands.

The head of government pointed out that the state ministry had not requested any new jobs. "So you see which way the wind is blowing." The message to all ministries is therefore clear. "I actually also need jobs, and quite a few, but I didn't ask for any." Kretschmann announced that he wanted to change the procedure for preparing the budget. The chief talks between the finance minister and the other heads of department did not work out. After all, it is not the first time that the demands of the ministries have exceeded the financial corridor for political priorities by a multiple. "That makes the process itself no longer useful." You have to think of something else here.
