Marbella (dpa / lsw) - Trainer Bruno Labbadia calls for more training from midfielder Lilian Egloff at VfB Stuttgart. "I think he needs to step up his game," said Labbadia after the 3-0 win in the Bundesliga club's friendly against FC Sion from Switzerland, where Egloff came on as a substitute in the 75th minute. "If he's greedy, it's relatively easy to get the position. It's a huge opportunity that's only in his hands," said Labbadia in Marbella, Spain.
Egloff "didn't play a big role" in the training camp, said the coach. In the season to date, the 20-year-old has made eleven appearances in all competitions under Pellegrino Matarazzo, who was released in October, and interim coach Michael Wimmer. He was not involved in a goal.
Labbadia hopes that his protégé can quickly come to the fore. "We need hungry people and he has every opportunity to play directly," said the coach, who has been training the Swabians for the second time since mid-December. "We'll see how long it takes him to get another boost."
